Final Entry for Ohio

October 6: Tomorrow we have to leave Akron, so tonight we harvested all the lettuce! With a little care and a fair chance, even the two small, weaker lettuce plants in the middle kept growing over these last few days. In the end, they stood tall, too!

Children are the same way. With enough support and care, they can gradually grow and flourish, becoming who they are meant to be.

We’re so happy to have spent this past month growing lettuce. The children were delighted to see their harvest—to watch it grow and smell its fresh scent. And finally, it became our breakfast!

The Butter Crunch is GROWING!

September 21st, Just 4 days later, the lettuce began to develop positively, and the leaves started to become wider and wider!

Monday, September 23, We added nutrient solution, and after two days, their growth speed was faster than the speed of growing leaves at the beginning! It’s like a child has found the direction of their development, stabilized their foundation, and started to grow more skills!

September 25th, They drank a lot this week, and we needed to add 500ml of water every day. After that, they grew rapidly, and they were not as strong as before, but now they look the same! The weakest one finally didn’t catch up with the same pace, but it grew bigger than at the beginning! In fact, the growth of everything is similar, and the development of children is like lettuce! At the beginning, the same soil and the same environment, the growth speed was different at first, but after laying a stable foundation, they will grow wildly. In the middle stage, they started to grow similar, and the gap became smaller and smaller, but the weak child is weak compared to the outside world, but compared to himself, he has been trying to grow, and the speed is the same.

September 27th! The lettuce grew so fast that I was really surprised! The crazy growth this week has gotten longer and longer day by day, and the smell is also very fresh! This makes me think, if someone has enough energy (like fertilizer), enough sunlight (like 16 hours of light), and plenty of nourishment (like water), how could they not grow to the way they should? Lettuce will grow to have the taste and lush green leaves it should! Children will grow to look like themselves!

Butter Crunch Lettuce

September 10th: The lettuce grew at an amazing speed. It only sprouted a little on the 8th, and after two days, it actually grew a few leaves! The children shouted out immediately when they saw the leaves! Let me take a quick look! They were amazed by the strong vitality of life.

September 14: The lettuce was all normal. There were two leaves that were noticeably weaker than the others, and the children also noticed this and explained it to him, saying it was normal; people are also some tall and some short! It was different, and I started to worry a little about the lettuce.

September 15: We started planting with great anticipation! When we first saw the seeds, they were densely packed, one by one, and with a skeptical mindset, could such small seeds grow into strong lettuce? The children carefully placed the seeds into the sponge, putting three seeds in each small hole, and finally completed it by even putting a little dinosaur figurine to “take care” of these seeds! The children were really worried.

September 16th: Under John’s guidance, we pruned the leaves! We removed the weak ones and left the strong ones! The purpose was to help the strong ones grow better! I’m a little sad here, thinking about our society, which is also a competitive society and cruel, where only the strong survive and the weak are devoured. I’m wondering why we don’t give them some space? Maybe they can grow up too! But I found that its roots can’t be pulled out and can’t help them move to another place! Okay, then I can only accept it! I’m also thinking about how to help weak children, or rather, how to create more space?

September 17th: We kept the strong one, and its growth rate got faster! Sam was curious about its roots, took it up, and found that it sprouted white roots!
